Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) is a government-owned company, where the central or state government holds 51 per cent of the total shares. A career in PSUs is highly coveted amongst engineering graduates. A good rank in GATE 2017 may land you in a reputed PSU like BHEL, ONGC, HPCL, etc. However, to get a job in such companies, it is imperative to have strong and in-depth knowledge along with the understanding of fundamental principles of engineering. GATE 2017 is one such examination that evaluates both general and technical aptitude of a candidate. PSUs recruit candidates based on their GATE score.

In a few years, PSUs have started recruiting more number of candidates and the number of recruitments has increased remarkably this year. PSU recruitment through GATE 2017 will have deserving candidates on board as GATE exam is one of the toughest exams in India.

Some PSUs recruit through GATE; however, there are certain criteria for recruitment through GATE 2017. Candidates may note that GATE 2017 scores are considered one of the most important parameters for selection in the top PSUs.

PSU Eligibility Criteria:

Candidate should have obtained a full-time degree in Engineering/Technology with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognised University/Deemed University or Institute recognised by AICTE (50% for SC/ST).

Candidates in their final year may also apply on the condition that they obtain a minimum of 60% (50% SC/ST) in their qualifying degree and furnish proof of the same.

The candidate’s age should not be more than 27 years as on January 1, 2016.

Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.

GATE Score:

Score of candidates in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineers (GATE) 2017 will be a determining factor in the selection. The graduate engineers who are interested in taking up a career in PSUs need to appear for GATE 2017 in the relevant disciplines.

Based on the GATE score, candidates will then be qualified for the next selection rounds consisting of a group discussion and group task and then finally a personal interview to assess a candidates’ understanding of different facets, skills and attitude. Candidates have to first successfully pass the GATE-2017 examination, and after that the GD/GT and PI to make it to the selection. Merit list will be prepared based on GATE score, GD/GT and PI scores, and will as per each discipline.


What after CAT 2016 Cut-Off?

Once the CAT 2016 cut-off will be announced, candidates will be shortlisted for further rounds including personal interview and writing ability test. Find out more!

CAT 2016 was conducted on December 4, 2016 and the results are expected to be announced in the second week of January 2017. This year according to the CAT 2016 paper analysis, the difficulty level was on the higher side due to which the cut-offs might reduce to some extent. This CAT 2016 cut-off will decide the fate of numerous candidates aspiring for the top IIMs and other top B-schools of the country.

The results will be available in online mode only. The scorecard will not be sent to anyone in hard copy via mail and neither will it be sent via email. The CAT 2017 scores will remain valid until December 31, 2017.

The CAT results will furnish scaled scores for each section, total score and sectional percentile and total percentile. Once the results will be announced and CAT 2016 cut-off will be released, IIMs will start shortlisting candidates based on their percentiles. The further rounds will include interview, group discussion and Written Ability Test (WAT).

Written Ability Test (WAT) comprises of one or more topics on which a candidate is required to write a short essay. The time duration assigned to write the essay on the given topic varies from one IIM to another and can be anywhere between 15 minutes to 45 minutes.

Group Discussion round is less preferred these days and most of the IIMs skip this round, however; it is a wise decision to always come prepared for group discussion as well. This round judges a candidate’s performance and group dynamics.

Personal interview is the final round in the CAT 2016 selection process. In this round, the candidate has to appear before a panel of 4-8 interviews that test the candidates on their academic background, work experience, hobbies, interests, etc.
